Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo has one of the largest and most popular farmers' markets in the country. Every Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm visitors will find produce and fruit and so much more at the Downtown SLO Farmers' Market. From ethnic cuisine to gourmet bites to sizzling barbecue and live entertainment, hundreds of people turn out each week to enjoy varied cuisines and live entertainment, all while supporting local businesses.
In the 1970s, downtown San Luis Obispo businesses decided to stay open past 4:00 pm to encourage people to shop after work. As a result, the streets became overcrowded, and the Downtown Association decided to barricade 6 blocks of Higuera Street to be reserved for shopping and entertainment. Soon after, various vendors made their way to the area including local farms and small businesses. To this day, more than 40 years later, the event has been drawing people from all over the area with its tantalizing offerings and vibrant energy.
With endless delectable choices, it will be challenging to choose from grilled corn on the cob, tri-tip kabobs, and homestyle Italian. If you're craving something smoked and savory, discover tantalizing barbecue at Mo's. Offering baby back ribs, pulled pork, and rotisserie chicken all smothered in a signature sauce, Moe's is simply the best. Other cuisines include traditional American, Mexican, Greek, and more! Of course, vendors are ready to satisfy your sweet tooth with options like strawberry shortcakes, sundaes, parfaits, and churros drizzled with caramel.
One of the biggest draws of the market is the fresh and colorful produce. When in season, visitors can walk away with artichokes, tomatoes, corn on the cob, carrots, cucumbers, beets, onions, or an eclectic mix of greens. Treat yourself to ripe California strawberries, mandarins, and Gala apples. With spring around the corner, now is the time to bring beautiful blooms into your home, and the downtown market has you covered with a range of florals.
