One of the great things about living on the beautiful central coast of California is the abundant natural beauty. With over 300 days of sun each year, this area makes it the ideal setting to enjoy the jaw-dropping scenery. When in need of a break from work or studies, the San Luis Obispo area has some spectacular sights that offer the ideal respite to help recharge. For some of the best views in the area, here are a few picture-perfect spots to enjoy:
Just a short drive from the city of San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay National Estuary connects Morro Bay and Los Osos. Covering over 2,300 acres, this estuary brings together two creeks that filter out to the Pacific Ocean. This stunning locale is not only great for sight-seeing, but it is also a habitat for hundreds of native plants and animals including maritime chaparral, western pond turtles and southern sea otters.
Located just to the west of San Luis Obispo, Lopez Lake has over 20 miles of shoreline to enjoy. Set along the Santa Lucia mountains, this lake area is filled with outdoor activities including hiking, swimming and birdwatching. One of the most popular destinations around Lopez Lake is the Big Falls Hiking Trail that leads to naturally-occurring 30-foot water slide built into the mountain.
Named for its serene vista from the seat of an old-fashioned swing, Serenity Swing is a popular destination in the Poly Canyon area. The 3.5-mile hike there and back is mixed with both easy and moderate trails, but the payoff is a sweeping view of the valley below. Hikers can enjoy both the swing and the pristine views of the wildflowers and greenery from this tranquil spot.
