Students usually spend hours each day indoors. Class time, studying, and even leisurely activities tend to take place within four walls. But there are many good reasons to take a step outside and smell the flowers. San Luis Obispo hiking trails are the perfect way to exercise, practice mindfulness, and spark your creativity. SLO County is home to more than 20 trails, nature preserves, and open spaces. With so many great outdoor attractions, you'll always have something new to explore. Below, we list three great trails only about five minutes away from our SLO apartments.
Great for beginners or those friends who aren't very good with directions, Lemon Grove Loop has a clearly-marked trail and ends where it begins. The trail is a little over 2 miles, but breakaway trails give you the option to extend your hike.
The trail here winds along the tallest volcanic peaks in San Luis Obispo. Round-trip, the hike is 3.5 miles and over 900 ft. elevation gain. If you only go on one hike during your time in San Luis Obispo, you won't regret choosing Bishop Peak. However, this trek can be a bit challenging for some, so be sure to review the U.S. Natural Park Service hiking tips before you start.
Cerro San Luis Trail is great when you're in mixed company or don't want to go back to your apartment just yet. The mountainous trail connects to many others, so you can extend your hike up to about five miles. When you're ready to cool off, a short walk will put you right in the center of downtown San Luis Obispo.
