The Best Places To Study in San Luis Obispo
San Luis Obispo has no shortage of cafes, libraries, and public spaces that will satisfy your academic needs.
We've scouted out the best places in SLO to focus, snack, fuel up on espresso, and tackle those assignments.
Scout, with its two locations, is a sure bet for a well-crafted latte or pour over to fuel your studying. The Foothill location boasts ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as plenty of parking. The cafe has long group tables where you can meet your classmates, smaller tables for quieter work, as well as armchairs and coffee tables for reading. For your longer study sessions, take advantage of the onsite bakery and snack on a handcrafted pastry.
Bring your books to Linnaea's. Open all day, and serving breakfast and lunch to hungry students, Linnaea's also offers delicious coffee and treats. There's plenty of indoor seating available, too, though it feels more bustling indoors than in the quiet garden. Double check their live music calendar first, and be sure to try the carrot cake!
Open later than most other cafes in SLO, until 10 p.m. each night, Kreuzberg has ample access to power outlets, a varied menu of savory snacks and baked goods, and satisfying house-roasted coffee. Kreuzberg's front patio seating is a great space to plug in some earbuds and tap away at that essay. They offer delicious craft lattes, iced drinks, and even weekend brunch. Check the calendar for live music and brunch offerings to avoid the crowds.
Opening at 5 a.m. every day, Blackhorse is your best bet to watch the sunrise and refuel after that all-nighter, or get some last-minute cramming in before that 8 a.m. class. A longstanding San Luis Obispo staple, Blackhorse offers plenty of table space to spread out, incredible coffee, and a menu chock-full of sweet snacks and breakfast pastries, all just across the way from The Academy Chorro!
For a budget-friendly option, head to Mission Plaza for a free, beautiful, riverside outdoor setting. Perch yourself on a shady bench along the river, find a patch of grass to spread your books out, or sit on the concrete steps of the amphitheater and find inspiration in your fellow park goers. The City of San Luis Obispo-maintained park also has public bathrooms and is within walking distance to plenty of options for study snacks.
